Amazon.co.uk Review As Brit and her fan base grow older, it's perhaps inevitable that Miss Spears's third album would be one of those difficult "coming of age" affairs. Luckily Britney manages to carefully mix the more "credible", Prince/adult style tunes (thankfully there are only two--"I'm A Slave 4 U" and "Boys")--with the more formulaic pop anthems that have made her great ("Anticipating", "Cinderella", "Bombastic Love" and "Let Me Be"). The pressures of "growing-up" and the adolescent gripe of being taken seriously, seems to a dominant theme which runs right through the album from the, "...I need to make mistakes to know who I am" lyrics on the N'Sync-style "Overprotected", to the appropriately titled, "I'm Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman". Perhaps Britney's street-wise maturity explains why there's no power ballad on the album, with the lower songs like "That's Where You Take Me" and "When I Found You" still having a bit of a swing to them. In true Britney album style, "I Love Rock 'n' Roll" is the obligatory rock cover of the Joan Jett classic. Winding the album down, "Before The Goodbye" is a Hi-NRG powered track (in the style of Dana International), which would make an excellent Eurovision entry given the chance. While this album might suggest a slight shift in musical direction for Britney, there's plenty of material on here that will appeal even to the most conservative Spears fans. --John Galilee

Britney doing what she does best - Slick, modern, fun pop tunes March 18, 2008 Barcode: 0638592225329
Many tout this - Britney's self titled 3rd album - as her most consistent and they're not far from the truth there. It's slick, glossy R&B feel has immense appeal and allows Britney to shine as a performer. Boys is a prime example of this as is the attitude packed 'What It's Like To Be Me'.
My personal fave's from this album though are largely the more 'old-style' Britney tracks. Cinderella and Lonely are effortlessly catchy but truly the star of this album is Overprotected, it is a powerful singalong anthem and with its meaningful lyrics marks it out as possibly my absolute fave Britney track ever. I love it!
The personal feel of the album continues in its highest charting single, 'I'm Not A Girl...'. This song, as with the album as a whole, is without a doubt a pop classic which simply grows and grows on you.
tremendous! February 8, 2008 This cd doesn't have as many beautifully sung ballads as Britney's earlier cds but it still amounts to great entertainment with fast paced music, quick fire lyrics, lively beats and Britney's sense of fun and adventure shining through. And there is a big variety of musical styles.Watch the video of some of these songs on the Las Vegas concert dvd and you will really understand how good they are (in particular the performances of "lonely" and " what it's like to be me). When you take Britney's other albums into consideration she has produced the biggest mix and variety of high quality and original songs by one person in a very very long time.I listen to her tracks time after time - they are difficult to get bored of and I should think they will be getting listened to for years to come. Not everyone will like this Britney cd right away but give it a chance because it will sink its teeth into you eventually.
