Please stop the high pitched bloke from singing anymore October 10, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I like Monster, its a good record. However, the album is full of quite lame tracks and I must confess to getting fed up with the bloke who has a very high pitched voice chipping in with his 'lyrics'. However, I feel that the Automatic do have potential. Not a terrible album but not great. Monster is worth it alone at this price mind.
Whats that coming over the hill - is it a review? July 30, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is a good first offering from the automatic that imprints their distinctive sound onto the listener. Their music is infectious pop rock catchy and easy to listen to. The best track by far is the anthemic "Monster" that is sure to be a hit for years to come and other stand-out tracks include "Raoul" and "Rats." All the songs are listenable to however there are quite a few fillers and there is a vast quality gap between "Monster" and any other track on this album. Having said that this is still a very good debut for a teenage band and is worth a listen. This is a good record for anyone who likes the single and who likes fast catchy pop rock.
In terms of enjoyment! July 3, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Ok I accept the criticism of the other reviewers here - there is way too much repetition in this album and certainly a couple of tracks at least that seem largely unneccessary. I still love it though. The 5 star mark is based purely on my own enjoyment of the record. About half the songs are, in my opinion, genuinely very good. Even the weaker ones are rescued by the sharp sound and the bands deranged enthusiasm (although keyboardist Pennie has worryingly begun expressing unhappiness with the material).
Opening track 'That's what she said' is a dance-punk call to arms while 'Recover' reveals a thrilling glimpse of The Automatic's hardcore background. The stand out track for me is 'By my side' which sounds a bit like Refused doing the Doctor Who theme - this is actually a very good thing! Oh, and there's this song called 'Monster' but you might have heard that already.
Ok Album May 6, 2007 1 out of 4 found this review helpful
This band filled me with excitment when i heard their first releases, so naturally i got the album. However, theres only a few other songs on here which are as well done, and the rest are repetitive and 'simular'. I was quite disappointed and reccomend just downloading the ones you like, because you probably wont think their all as good.
Sorry guys
Well worth a go March 14, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I saw these guys at the NME Rocks show before I had passed any heed on their singles. Gave a hell of a show so I went out immediately and got the CD. While it is no classic it has some rollicking songs and is a good addition to any collection. There is a similar sound to alot of the songs which seems to be a common theme of the reviews but there are a lot of established acts who have survived on recording the same sound over and over. Coldplay for one.
give it a go you won't be disappointd
