Disappointing!! May 23, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
If this material had been presented with performers in clothes, no one would have given it a second look, or listen. It is not musically entertaining, not culturally endearing, not cleverly staged, and left me wondering what low level have we fallen to, if this is what passes for gay entertainment nowadays!! The cast are talented - yes, and do look good without clothes it has to be said, but that is all that can be said of it - apart from - NEXT!!!!!!!!!
Does exactly what it says on the tin! April 10, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Ok so this isn't doesn't exactly have the highest production values but it definitely one of the most fun and original musicals I've ever seen. The naked novelty does wear off fairly soon into proceedings but when you've got a cast this hot prancing about the stage in their birthday suits you can be sure that your attention never drifts! Many of the songs are hilarious with, great, catchy melodies and all of the performers really are at the top of their game. Don't go expecting too much and you're sure to enjoy this hilariously innovative musical!
Yawn April 8, 2008 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
Unlike my fellow reviewer, I have decided to be harsh and go for 2 stars here. My finger was on the 'skip forward' button on my remote far too much for me to be any more generous than that.
The show is very unremarkable once you get over the fact that there's a bunch of naked guys singing. That takes approximately the duration of the first song, and there was little else in this to interest me after that. The songs were bland and the guys slightly too buff and too kitsch to keep my attention (depends on your preferences there I guess!). The whole thing lacked authenticity and seemed very contrived, which may be because it's a recorded live show like the first review mentions.
If you want good male singers and songs, then go and see Michael Buble, Elton John or REM in concert. If you want to look at naked men, then try 'the Full Monty'!
Not the full spark February 4, 2008 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
On one level, this is "cute" - lots of very pretty men, mostly undressed, good voyer material. And the show itself does attempt to put many issues facing gay men into the arena, in an often quite humourous way: how guys will eye each other up (and compete!) in the gymn, the longing for an intimate connection, even a perky little pornstar from Illonois. The main gripe is that filming a live show, no matter how fancy the camera work, doesn't quite have the impact of seeing it in the flesh (no pun intended). The music etc is very "typical broadway show" style and somewhat predicatable: I was debating if it deserved a two star rating rather than three, but it does give a few laughs and is quite entertaining, even it it doesn't quite get there in the end.
