When history looks back on The Pigeon Detectives, will they be seen as anything more significant than a These Animal Men or Shed Seven to Kaiser Chiefs' Blur? Their debut album, Wait for Me, achieved remarkable success in the bizarre, never-ending post-Libertines vacuum with a string of undoubtedly infectious and direct bouts of rabble-raising indie-fuzz. But lining up alongside The Wombats, The View, The Enemy, Dirty Pretty Things, The Courteeners et al, minions chipping away at the same rock-face, there are gems—occasionally, of course there are--but there's also an inevitable mountain of sediment. And herein lies the problem for their typically difficult second album Emergency. While their approach may have matured a little, with "This Is an Emergency" bouncing on the Franz Ferdinand springboard and "Keep Oo Your Dress" having a bit of an Idlewild complexion rather than just plundering and shouting over Up the Bracket, the album has trouble lifting its head much above the parapet. "She's Gone", which has as much in common with Green Day's buffed punk-pop as contemporary UK strands, and the mid-pace Kaisers-esque "Love You for a Day (Hate You for a Week)" are perfectly affable, serviceable Britpop, but the sirens are not blaring this time. In Britain, if you are male, you are expected to like football, drink poor quality lager, behave like an idiot every Friday and Saturday night, and shout "get in!" every time someone says something you like the sound of. The Pigeon Detectives are the soundtrack to the lives of the people who embrace these expectations.

The first album was new and had a rawness to it which made it great. This album is good but the songs are not as catchy. I've a feeling they'll grow on me! Still worth the money though.

This album is much better than the first. More rockier than the first album Wait For Me, which to me sounded the same all the way through.

There is a subtle difference in the 1st Cd & the latest. Couldn't see me playing the 1st CD, followed by the second. Not to say that neither are sheer brilliance. Trouble with what the Pigeon's have done is the
ABC syndrome. Their 1st cd could not be bettered, QUITE SIMPLY...
But were here to review the 2nd one.
It has classic tracks, will have the audience going wild when the first riff of song starts..."Nothing to do with you", is heart felt, if you cant relate to this track you wont like the Cd. You have to have this cd if your a pigeon fan. If you listen to this CD first, then go onto the 1st...you'll be in heaven.

I really thought this would be disappointing June 4, 2008
How wrong I was. Whilst the debut Wait For Me was a pretty decent guitar record, it was certainly not perfect. Many bands that have a little success are unable to build on that, and after hearing the band boast that they've already finished material for a third album I was sceptical about the quality of number 2.
That said, I actually think they've slightly surpassed themselves. Sure, the CD won't be in your player for months to come, but it will be constantly be playing for the next few weeks - more-so if the weather stays fine. Good job lads.
