Amazon.co.uk Review Not only is Planet Earth one of the most jaw-dropping, ambitious, nature documentaries the BBC has ever produced, it's now taken on another role: as a superb demonstration disc for the potential of HD DVD and Blu-ray. Spread over a good ten hours, the series charts life and nature in dozens upon dozens of differing locations around the earth. Diligently and warmly narrated by Sir David Attenborough, Planet Earth calmly goes close in on its subject matter when required, and then pulls out some stunning perspective shots that are simply breathtaking. It's hard to come up with the right superlatives to do the photography on the programme any kind of justice, and that it's married to such fascinating subject matter is all the better. And if you think the original broadcast of Planet Earth was something special, or you were gobsmacked by the picture quality on DVD, just wait until you see it in 1080p HD glory. Particularly some of the broader shots here are all but without parallel, and it's a real reward for those who have invested ahead of the crowd in high definition technology. Presented over five discs, and matching wonderful content to spot-on visual presentation, Planet Earth is now not just a landmark in nature documentary film making. It's also a chartermark of quality for just what HD DVD and Blu-ray can offer. A stunning release, in more than one sense. --Jon Foster

it is 1080p but the bbc box says 1080i May 9, 2008 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
goodness knows what the bbc are playing at but they have labelled all their mini series ( bleak house, planet earth, 20,000 streets ) etc as 1080i on the box set when in fact it is full 1080p - I just checked it on my blu-ray/hd-dvd drive on my PC using Nero Showtime which gives you full technical details of all the dics you play and it is full 1080p on the four feature discs and the 5th bonus disc of features is 1080i. just which idiot decided to label it as this remains a mystery.
Fascinating March 31, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
A great series, presented spectacularly. David Attenburghs enthusiasm remains infectious throughout, and the team have gone to extreme lengths to achieve some of the most stunning shots you will ever see in a nature documentary. Personally however, I'm not a fan of camera men and techy folk droning on about all the sacrifices they made to achieve the footage. I suppose it's meant to increase our appreciation of what we have seen, but instead seems a little egotistical. As talented as they undoubtedly are, I bought planet earth to find out about planet earth, not to listen to some bloke bang on about how he missed christmas day to sit and freeze to death in some remote corner of the earth. That said, the series is both fascinating and moving (I still struggle to watch the lions hunting an elephant), and the series really does capture a certain "wow" factor that there are places like this on our planet. Well worth a look.

Techno babble aside , this is a wonder to watch and brilliantly filmed series. I only got disc one on rental but will be looking to buy it once I can get it a little cheaper. Rent before you buy and see for yourself , forget the pixel count or how hi low def it gets just enjoy!!!
I wonder why my previous reviews never got posted.... December 22, 2007 2 out of 13 found this review helpful
...very strange. Oh, and it's full 1080P, not 1080i. Shame it's only 24P and therefore jerky as hell.
UK version is 1080p! December 20, 2007 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
Some people complain about this is not 1080p. It is. The UK version is 1080p (the four main dvd's) AND 1080i (extra dvd).
