Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.co.uk Review
It was always going to be a challenge to move a show whose premise effectively fitted comfortably inside a single series to a third season. And so perhaps inevitably, Prison Break moves the action back to the slammer, this time in Panama. It proves to be a wise choice, as, while plausibility has long since been thrown out of the window, it's a more natural setting for the show.

Prison Break still follows brothers Lincoln and Michael Burrows, but this time there's a far tougher prison that needs to be broken out of. It's a little less claustrophobic than the last one, but more dangerous. And along with the usual terrific supporting cast of characters, the tension, twists and violence that underpin the show are all very much present and correct.

Powering Prison Break forwards, of course, is the pin-up star Wentworth Miller, who owns his role as Michael, and grounds many of the show's extremities. And while it's a shorter season than the first two, this third run still manages to cram in some strong entertainment.

Perhaps season three isn't Prison Break's finest hour, and perhaps the concept has diluted somewhat since the show first began. But this is still really good, assured entertainment, that knows what it wants to do and simply gets on with it. For that alone, it remains a show hard to resist. --Jon Foster

5 out of 5 stars Prison Break 3 is dark, gritty and plain brilliant!!!! Sona is Hell!   July 4, 2008
When you look at the intelligence and the quality of the first Season and the pace and the depth of the second, what was missing was the dark and gritty side and Season 3 has that in all 13 episodes. It is more dark, we see the violent side of Michael Scofield and the emotional side instead of his clam persona. The setting is scary, brutal and an image of hell. Sona is without a doubt, the scariest prison you will ever come across. The inmates run the yard, people die and nobody comes out alive. The writers were really clever with Sona, it is the setting that we get to see Michael's different side. The side where he is not only brains but aggressive. I think the star of the 3rd Season is Alex Mahone's character. He has become more important as the show goes on and the newfound respect he finds with Michael is great for the show. With the sweaty and heated feel of Panama and the dark, rainy, hot and brutal reality of Sona.........this Season is brilliant and is the best of the lot in my view.

5 out of 5 stars Completely Addictive   June 29, 2008
I think series 3 is nearly almost as brilliant as series 1 - once again completely addictive/compulsive viewing. How do the writers think of all those twists and turns. Amazing. Throughly enjoyed performances by Wade Williams (Brad Ballick) Robert Knepper (T-Bag) and Wentworth Miller (Michael Scofield)...still disappointed one of the main strong characters got killed off in series 2 but the writers soon bring in other strong actors and storylines. Cant wait to see series 4 (if there is one - I do keep reading they are filming).

1 out of 5 stars Deeply deeply silly - how the mighty have fallen!   June 28, 2008
The plotting is repetitious and silly - almost laughably so at times - and there's a general air of desperation and ever decreasing circles about the whole enterprise. Such a shame because the first two series were so bracingly taut and bursting with good characters. What really sinks Season 3 is the casting of a terrible actor in a major role - Whistler - every time the actor opens his mouth you can see Wentworth Miller or which ever unfortunate member of the cast he happens to share a scene with wincing in anticipation of that reliably 100% wooden delivery.

4 out of 5 stars Maybe it's the writer's strike, but...   June 27, 2008
season three is missing a certain element that made Seasons 1 and 2 one of the best show ever. There was no mention of Agent Kellerman, a great character of the previous seasons, the company wasn't as bigger part as before, it only took eleven episodes to escape from 'Sona', and above all; the demise of Sarah. However, season three was great and a must-buy anyhow, but with only thirteen episodes this time, it seems to go to fast!

2 out of 5 stars A betrayal of the fans and the great cast   June 21, 2008
I loved Prison Break Season 1 and was thrilled when Season 2 somehow managed to be just as good if not better! Oh no what happened here!?! Season 3 is not even in the same league! - I watched the first 4 episodes and then gave up on it.

A very major character was obviously not signed for this season of the show and is killed off very early on, this in itself was enough to ruin the season for me - the way the person is killed there is no way they can come back yet I've read they do in season 4 - not the kind of sloppy stunt you expect to be pulled in what is supposed to be a quality show is it?

The sets of the inside of the prison are poor and even this supposedly "hellish" Panama prison has a lightweight atmosphere to it with unconvincing actors playing the crims - I know guys down the pub who are more intimidating than these supposed psycopaths. Fox River had more of a real prison feel to it if you ask me.
The plot is largely a rehash of season 1 but nowhere near as good and comes across as contrived just to keep the show going rather than a logical continuance of the story.

Apparently the Hollywood writers strike is to blame - well in my opinion the movie studio is to blame - they make a fortune out of these shows and should have either paid the writers what they wanted or delayed the season until a proper Season of Prison Break could be released. What a waste of a great cast and film crew who I've come to appreciate so much through season 1 and 2.

The only reason I'm giving two stars is it's probably still better entertainment than most other TV shows.

In my opinion this seaason should be boycotted - the studios need to know the fans won't tolerate them sabotaging our fav shows like this just to save themselves a few quid!
