Amazon.co.uk Review Noah's Ark is another in Hallmark's growing series of classics for TV to set alongside The Odyssey and Jason and the Argonauts. This time, Hallmark bring the ultimate disaster story to the small screen with impressive effects and handsome production design. "Liberties were taken for dramatic purposes", warns the opening credits and, to be sure, this shouldn't be taken as gospel (pardon the pun). Noah (Jon Voight), the last good man on Earth, is spared from the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah and chosen to build an ark to save his family and the creatures of the Earth from a cleansing flood. Like a bad penny, his best friend, Lot (F Murray Abraham), a decadent hedonist turned brigand, keeps turning up in the most unlikely places, including a post-apocalyptic sea battle that owes more to Waterworld than the Old Testament. It's an entertaining if episodic story led by an appropriately humble Voight, with Mary Steenburgen as his whiny wife (she musters a surprising amount of dignity for the part) and James Coburn as a jolly pedlar. Jim Henson's Creature Shop fills up the floating zoo with a charming array of animals. It's never as compelling as Hallmark's previous tele-film epics, but liberal amounts of deadpan anachronistic humour (Lot and his wife, played by Carol Kane, come across as nothing less than comic-strip couple the Bickersons come to life) and spectacular scenes of destruction keep the film afloat through its lengthy running time. --Sean Axmaker, Amazon.com

Horrible. June 7, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I first saw this production a couple of years ago on TV. I'm not sure if it is John Voight's first comedy role but the leading actress I have seen in a few other childrens comedies. The whole production is a total mockery. It is not intended to be true to the Biblical story, it is a comedy, poking fun at the Genesis account. Don't let the cover fool you.
Incoherence throughout. Zero Stars! December 31, 2003 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Absolutely atrocious!!!that's not to say the worse. I don't comprehend how a movie that has as its name a biblical chapter, can be produced without a minimum understanding of Genesis. In order to make the movie longer, passages that have Abraham as the main character, are impersonated by Noah. Since when, Sodoma and Gomora were destroyed during Noah's period. Someone has to tell the producers that it happened almost 1000 years after.A lot of the scenes were taken out of one's imagination and not from the Holy Scriptures . A total discredit to Genesis and a mockery of the Bible. Bad acting and a horrible script. Waste of time and money!!!
A video for all the family November 30, 2001 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
This video tells the story of Noah and the flood in detail, with wonderful special effects that will keep you glued to the screen, even if the script lets you down in places. Some of the acting is quite stiff, although I am sure that overall you will find that they have dealt with the story well. I would not recommend this film to religion enthusiasts, but would say that this film is more for light entertainment and for a glance at what the great flood could have been like. There are moments of hilarity, which I think keeps the film going in places. Watch this if you would like to bring the bible to life for your children.
