DISAPPOINTED BUYER August 27, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The headset is fine insofar as it accurately captures sound - I'm handicapped and need a headset for Dragon speech recognition software. But, the headphones hug/enclose the ears so that it's hard to hear oneself talk, and I don't like that. Apparently they were designed with gamers in mind. I find that the size settings on the headphones alter every time I put them on, which is a bit of a ******; I have only one good hand.
Very Good Quality Audio and Comfort July 30, 2008 I was worried about spending 30pounds on a headset before i actually got it but now i have it i have not looked back, its a brilliant USB headset and is comfortable for long term gaming.
Its also good because i can setup in Ventrilo to use the headset so i can listen to music out of my speakers and hear them in my headset!
A+
WHY OH WHY from CAROL in SCUNTHORPE July 11, 2008 I had a DSP 300 which came with the Plantronics Persona graphic equalizing software disk. The DSP 300 was excellent in using the Persona. But the Persona disk was not supplied with this DSP 550. OK I thought I'll use the Persona disk I got with the DSP 300. First attempts were unsuccessful. Eventually I discovered I had to delete the Persona software as it had been loaded for the 300, then do a reboot with the 550 plugged in. Then I reloaded the Persona software. This latched it in, and improved the plug and play quality from excellent to GOB SMACKING. The Plantronics website, on which I was unable to find a Persona software Download, says that the DSP 550 is their final headset that is compatible with their Persona software. The DSP 300 and 550 have their own inline, digital quality sound card which aligns the Persona software to them. Having performed this operation for the 550, I tried my DSP 300 again to see if they still worked without further alteration. It did. I could SWEAR that my old DSP 300, now works better also. I have no further complaints, I am in a state of bliss with both of them. The 550 has bigger earcups and a bigger diaphragm, allowing enhanced bass. Despite the lack of Persona disk with the 550, at this price EXCELLENT VALUE FOR MONEY, excellent quality. I RATE THIS DSP 550 FIVE STAR
Good Headset January 25, 2008 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
This headset is the first I've owned and was purchased to use with Skype. I own a set of Grado headphones and the DSP-550 compare very well when used for listening to audio. I stream Radio 4 and the Grado phones now sit in my drawer unused. The cheaper headsets have separate jacks for microphone and headphones. The DSP-550 uses a single USB connection and is truly plug and play. No configuration required. The inline volume rocker control is convenient and I was Skyping instantly. The microphone can be swivelled out of harms way when not in use. I've deducted one star as they are not as comfortable as my Grado SR60's but then again, they are three times the price. If you need a computer headset I'd happily recommend these.
