Poor time keeping and nasty aerial August 17, 2008
The good looks of this radio are spoilt by the scraggy bit of crumpled wire attached to like an afterthought that is meant to serve as an aerial. Apart from looking bad, you will have to find somewhere to attach the loose end of the aerial and it suffers from a poor DAB signal pick-up. Our old cheap and nasty DAB radio that this was meant to stylishly replace gets much better DAB tuning using a regular metal telescopic aerial.
But that only sets the scene for the worst part - the clock is totally dependent on the DAB signal to keep time. So if your DAB signal is lost, say goodbye to the time display and walking up to an alarm.

Luckily I bought this product before I read the reviews on this site. I have not had any of the reported problems with it that I have read on here. I can hardly believe that I am reviewing the same product!!!
I love the look of this product it looks great on my bedside cabinet. It is really easy to read the time and set the alarm which was my main complaint of my former ipod system. The alarm has some great features. You can set it to go off daily, weekends only or just once. You can set up to four alarms and also choose whether you would like to wake up to radio, ipod or alarm.
I have no complaints about the sound. It is very easy to use. My only critism would be that it does not pick up as many dab stations as I would like. Saying that however, I would say that that is more to do with the area I live in rather than the system itself.
The fact that it is environmentally friendly adds to its appeal. I highly recommend this product.

I bought one of these pretty much immediately when it came out from a major high street retailer, and had the high pitched whine problem that occurred when the screen was dimmed by a variable amount. I got it replaced at the store no problem, and since then I've enjoyed it. It is quite lightweight, but some blu tack sorted that button pushing problem out.
We listen almost exclusively to speech stations (R4, R5, BBC7) and low volume ipod and as such we've found the sound fine, and the unit looks very smart. The remote control has been very useful for my wife who was feeding the baby some meters away! That worked well.
It is quite pricey, but does what it is supposed to do pretty well, and as such we were on balance quite happy, but we are no audiophiles and didn't have high performace criteria particularly. It's really convenient for the bedroom which is relatively low volume environment, but don't expect concert hall filling sound!

I have had to return 2 of these because of the high pitched whine, which I see from other reviews was not unique. The first only did it with the radio, the second with all sources including my ipod. I was very, very disappointed as it looks great, has great features, and saves space as no need for separate clock, radio etc.
I chose this model because of the Pure name. It cost 99, never again!

This is not a sound system for your house parties or barbecues. However, as a bedside clock radio it is perfect.
There are no miracles with the sound quality, but if it were a BOSE I suspect there would be.
However if you want a good clock radio to get you up in the morning, listen to while you get ready for work and something to drift off to sleep to... then they don't get much better than this.
