5 out of 5 stars DSTT? Have i used anything this good before?   April 13, 2008

Upon receiving the little piece of equipment I was slightly dubious. No instructions so the company obviously thought you had to know what you were doing when you bought it. Fortunately for me it was just really easy to use!

The only bit that confused me was downloading an operating system for the card but when I found there was a list of OS files on the official dstt website and instructions on what to do with the files you download I was over the moon as I am fairly new to this kind of technology.

As for file transfer (games, music, films) it is simply a drag and drop process and really is as easy as copying and pasting the games etc that you want onto the memory card.

However, if I were you I would buy a few memory cards as mine has nearly filled up after 16 games. Still, off amazon, these cards can be bought very cheaply so it really doesnt matter a great deal.

A fantastic product that will keep you enthralled and amazed for hours on end!

5 out of 5 stars No help getting started   March 30, 2008

A super piece of kit, after you have searched the net for info on how to find, download and instal the necessary firmware, without which it will not work.. Some basic instructions in the box would help. Pete.

5 out of 5 stars Build-wise, there is no difference   February 22, 2008

As a person who sold and is still selling hundreds of both these items, and someone who has been doing this for years, there is minimal difference.

Build quality, both cards are the same. Although the R4 version did away with the spring-load, the DSTT's mechanism is more robust. I've had endless headaches refunding faulty R4 version 1's. I've had no such problems with DSTT so far.

System compatibility-wise, I found that DSTT has better wi-fi support than the R4. R4 also has problems reading the newer fast SDHC-format Micro SD's. Basically, don't buy the newer Micro SD's if you have an R4. Games will hang or have problems loading.

the R4 has a better menu system than the DSTT, however. The DSTT's opening menu is a drab grey - not very exciting.

For people who complain of having trouble with cartridges, let me tell you this - both brands can be problematic. Trust me, it's the contact points. Both these companies I'm sure will have quality control issues during the manufacturing process. I've returned R4's to wholesalers as well. Whatever problems existed for the R4 will be the same with the newer DSTT. This is where you have to pick your retailers correctly. You should be given at least 2 weeks for the cartridge to settle down. If it becomes faulty in its early days, give it back. it will continue to do so in the long run.

The main factor you have to consider is that the R4 Revolution's stocks are fading. There are rumours about factory closures by the Chinese government. I won't confirm this, but us sellers did notice that stocks are really low for the R4, not to mention a lot more expensive. the DSTT is being hailed as the "direct replacement" to the R4 Revolution.

My bottom-line is, it's a preferential thing. I will advice that buyers ask questions of their sellers and checking the returns policy before buying either of these, but also be practical enough to not have brand loyalty when it comes to these things. Get what's in stock and what's cheaper. They're not designer goods, but electronic goods that don't really have any function apart from emulating images for your console.

That's as objective as I can go on this. If you want second opinions, search for comparisons on the 'net. There are a lot of forums out there who can give you impartial opinions too.
