Problem Solved! January 28, 2005 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I too had the problem of the programme working for a while, then not, apparently after an update. This was on several computers, and I had felt quite dejected. Then I read one of the other reviews, suggesting changing the regional settings to English (United States), and it works. Thank you very much! Why can't PCs be more user friendly and resolve such fundamental problems themselves? Oh yes, the programme. Quite useful to me in that it estimates vitamin intakes for products and compares them to RDA, etc. Drawbacks include that I seem to have to input likes and dislikes every time I want them to influence the auto-menu generation. Also, when you request lower carb, higher fat/protein menus, it often says it hasn't been able to meet the required parameters. I think it's trying to accommodate the American Food Pyramid, and is reluctant to omit/reduce the quantity of grains/cereals.
How to FIX it. February 27, 2004 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
My wife bought this product back in 1998 (long before I knew her). She had this problem originally, but at the time the company was still around and managed to tell her how to fix it.Recently she re-installed the software on a new computer, and started getting the same error. However, she eventually remembered the solution. Please note this works under Windows 98se, and may require a slightly different approach under different versions of Windows. " Go to the "Control Panel" (Start>Settings>Control Panel) " Open "Regional Settings" " Under the "Regional Settings" tab, and above the map of the world, it may well say "English (United Kingdom)". Upon changing this one setting to "ENGLISH (UNITED STATES)", and the subsequant restart of the system, the Diet and Fitness" Program now WORKS. Hope this helps.
It used to work ...... October 23, 2003 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I have a number of things to raise. Firstly before updating my pc this programme used to run perfectly, and the major issue is - if you can get it to run then its a nice programme to use, although it is based on american foods which can be a bit confusing when trying to figure out the british alternatives. But this can be over come as you can input your own foods into the database. However, as i mentioned earlier, i have now updated my pc, and i have aproblem. it will install fine, but won't run .... i too get the illegal function call message which is all very frustrating, especially when i have used the programme in the past. So its obviously a conflict, but if theres no support to fix the problem then its a waste of time trying yourself. So really buy it at your own desire but it's pot luck whether it will work on your system.
Doesn't even run January 23, 2002 29 out of 29 found this review helpful
I have tried installing the program on several different machines now, and they all have the same problem. As soon as you try and run the program you get an error message saying 'Illegal function call' and the program terminates. So I tried contacting the company but the website printed on the CD cover is for a games company. Nice. So I thought I'd ring them instead but guess what: the telephone number given on the CD cover isn't even connected. Well that was money well spent wasn't it.
