Amazon.co.uk Review Talk to Me French is a well-composed CD-ROM programme with some quite flashy graphics, good video learning aids and an online resource centre. The language learner is provided with a map on which they can chart their progress from beginner to advanced in a variety of subject areas, including the supermarket, the post office and the aftermath of an accident. Like Transparent Language, Linguaphone, and other programmes in the field, Talk to Me French comes with voice-recognition software that will monitor your pronunciation. At the lower level, you participate in an interactive dialogue and select your response from three options. As things progress, you move to rearranging words in sentence order when they are thrown at you all jumbled up. The vocabulary becomes progressively more complex, but simply pointing the cursor at a French word provides the English translation. This is a highly competent software package. One of the best things about it is its sense of humour. In one dialogue you have the option of replying in French "I'm a machine, I have no name." This sort of wit is quite unusual in language packages and it really sets Talk to Me apart from its competitors. --Toby Green

Not for beginners February 27, 2003 54 out of 60 found this review helpful
This application is sold as suitable for beginner/intermediate/advanced. In my opinion,it is not for beginners. There is an immediate assumption of previous knowledge. I found it very disjointed and gave up after about 1 hour as it kept adding words with no means of translation. In some areas, you can highlight the words and get a rather vague translation but not always in correct context. The product may be suitable for people who want to brush up on their skills.

I have recently purchased this product and it has already made an enormous difference. This product is very easy to install and navigate with clear menus and instructions. I found it particularly useful helping with pronounceation using its voice recognition system. This gives you the oppurtunity to continualy repeat the words and phrases that you select until your pronounceation is perfect. There are lots of other useful features but this one impressed me most. These include multiple choice questions following a video sequence. Even though the voice can be frustrating at first you will get used to it. For any one learning french this is good value for money.
