 Excellent set of PC Tools June 17, 2008

I was looking for a program like this for a while. I wanted something that just fixed things without other unwanted utilities like back-up and Anti-virus. Its a bit like Norton utilities used to be.
The program is very easy to install and use. Once installed, you can carry out a 1-click maintenance, which can attend to all kind of common problems. There are also quite a few other utilities included for improving performance. Very difficult to go wrong with no annoying activation requirements.
I wish I had saw it here prior to buying it direct from the Tune-up website, as its half the price from Amazon.

I bought Tune Up Utilities 2008 on the strenght of reviews,mainly of the
2007 version,and one which referred to the 2008,and thought maybe
this is what I need:my computer continually crashed, usually needing three or more attempts to start up.
The program loaded quickly and easily on XP though the computer crashed
on installation,not I hasten to add, the fault of the program.Once the
diagnostics were run,I had 484 faults,and corrected,it`s up to the
individual to find and use the other facilities.There is plenty of help
to guide you through the many "Tune Up" tools,and these certainly made
a big difference:my computer now starts a lot more quickly and reliably.
You don`t need a lot of experience to be able to use this program successfully,it`s quite straightforward.I`ll give it 9 out of 10.

I bought TUP2008 after trialling the 2007 version. From a useability viewpoint I slightly preferred the 2007 version, though to be fair the 2008 version has more tools included. The package seems to be quite good at spotting and fixing problems in the Windows registry, in programs, and in shortcuts. Running the 1-Click cleanup in TUP2008 every day does seem to keep the PC running more smoothly.
For the price requested I think the package represents good value. I guess (inevitably) I compare it against the "old" versions of Norton SystemWorks (before Norton started to charge higher prices for "upgrades" that didn't work as well or even properly), and I still hanker after the way SystemWorks used to get on with the job of cleaning things up without too much fuss.
That said, the core functions in TUP2008 do work effectively. The defrag tool takes a while to run, but the PC does speed up noticeably afterwards. The utility for speeding up or optimising the web connection and/or tuning Windows also seems to make a noticeable difference.
TUP2008 also gives shortcuts to tuning the system which you can access via My Computer. For non-techie people TUP2008's way of doing this, especially as it also offers "roll-back" options if you don't like the end results, may be judged preferable.
There are also tools for altering the look and feel of Windows. Some of these can be a little system-hungry but if you have plenty of RAM they do look quite good.
Overall, I'm very statisfied with the way TUP2008 works, and think it's a comprehensive package for the price.
