great lillte machine July 23, 2008 I am very pleased with my purchase. The suction is superb - it is neat, tidy and easy to maintain. Good value for money and excellent service from Amazon.
Poor show! June 16, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this model having been persuaded by friends that Dyson made excellent vacuum cleaners, but I have not found it that good at all. Here are my issues with it: 1) It's heavy and bulky 2) The hose often gets tangled up and loses suction 3) The drum gets clogged up before filling up and emptying it is messy 4) The attachments are not a good shape for getting into awkward spots 5) There is no storage for the attachments- they are easy to lose!
Overall I regret buying this machine and won't be buying another Dyson ever again!

Present for my wife April 12, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Our old vacuum broke down in the middle of a major house clean up. (I was doing the hovering so like everything it was my fault) My wife had always talked about how much she wanted a Dyson so I thought I could earn a couple of extra brownie points and splashed out. She was absolutely delighted and raves about how brilliant it is. She has even allowed me to have a go. The DC19 is a brilliant vacuum on both wooden and carpeted floors. It has great suction and is easy to use, although steering it takes a little getting used to. Other reviews have mentioned problems with removing the collection compartment saying it is tricky to detach. My wife is disabled and has major problems with her hands but can manage it quite easily. The flat head standard attachment is great, because it is so thin you can get almost half of the head under a sofa or low unit where a standard head simply wouldn't go. Overall it has a good quality feel about it. It's styling is futuristic but personally I don't think there is anthing wrong in that. On the negative side I would agree that it is quite noisy but a small price to pay for clean floors!
DC19 - Noisy & Ugly April 7, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I purchased the DC19 to replace an 8 year old DC02 that blew its motor. I had the motor replaced under service but two years later and a much used machine - I decided to buy a new Dyson.
The DC19 is over engineered with a price to match. These vacuums are seriously overpriced. You are paying for an idea rather than the machinery, after all its only plastic and a motor - probably 30 quids worth of materials in all. The high price pays for name, distribution, a very good profit margin and manufacturing I guess.
There are too many models to choose from for a start. Long gone are the ideals of making a better vacuum - the marketing / investors want to maximise the market to the limit. Don`t get me wrong, they are good cleaning machines but an over engineered solution to a problem.
THe DC19 is noisy beast compare to the original DC05 (Whistles at a high pitch and louder). It only comes with the flat head attachment whereas the DC05 came with a smooth floor attachment and a rotating brush head. Far better value at 139.00 at the time. Trigger handle is over engineered. Its just not required. The original curved handle worked fine. The press on attachments are lesser quality than before. Thinner plastic and less bristles on the brush. The dirt compartment is much more trickier to remove. It shouldnt be...but the housing just doesnt part easily and the catch is sticky. I dont like the motor air vent facing upwards. Even though it trails behind you, you can still feel the pressure of it and it annoys anybody sitting behind the machine if they are in the room. I had a guest and it emptied the ashtray they were using from the force of the air vent!
Its also ugly looking beast now. A hydrid of Alien meets K-9 looks.
On the plus side, the electric cord is thicker and studier than previous models. Suction is good/better but it does have 400 more watts on the motor than the DC02.
If Dyson were to offer a swap with a DC02 for the DC19 I would accept. Wish I got chance to test the DC19 because I certainly wouldnt have brought this model if I did test it beforehand. I didnt like the look of the handle on the DC21 so opted for the DC19 but if I want the rotating brushg head I have to shell out another 40.
