Poor product October 8, 2008 This product is a poor man's 'Scarecrow' which is a similar (but more expensive) product and which is way better made and hugely more reliable than the Jet Repeller.
I am currently on my second one. The first was poorly finished and leaked around a washer/plastic screw thread area. It also went off every few seconds regardless of the sensitivity setting. The replacement was ok for a (very) short while but now the gyrating sprinkler action has jammed up and so it just squirts water in one place.
Also, the range of height adjustment in terms of how high or low the jet of water goes is very poor - it is not possible to get the spray down to a low enough setting which means that siting is restricted (unless you like drowning the neighbours of course). Again, the 'Scarecrow' is way superior on this score.
Not recommended. The idea behind it most definitely works - I already own a 'Scarecrow' (but wanted additional garden coverage)- but it's a false economy to buy the poorly made Jet Repeller. I can't be bothered to get yet another replacement and will put it down to experience and bin the one I have.
Since writing this review, the second one has started to go off all the time, regardless of the sensitivity setting, like the first. It has now been binned as a complete waste of money and a Scarecrow has been ordered to replace it. More money but it is well made and actually works!
Waste of time September 29, 2008 This was a complete waste of time - maybe I was unlucky - perhaps this was a faulty unit. It was fiddly to set up to say the least, and after all that it didn't work when I walked in front of it, yet went off on its own accord when we were standing behind it. When it did work the jet of water cleared our neighbours high hedge so it may have hit the Heron as it took off, and it didn't jet in any particular direction.
It does the job but could be improved May 6, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought one of these as a last resort to stop an extremely determined cat who took a shine to leaving cat mess right in the middle of our veg patch every evening.
Before buying this I had tried ultrasonic devices, bottles filled with water, various powders, ballons, netting over the ground, etc...all to no avail.
The device was easy to install and I had it protecting the desired spot within ten minutes. It took a little bit of fiddling around with to get the water to spray in the right direction (the adjuster that changes the range doesn't seem to do anything) and I found that the water sprays up in an arc which didn't seem ideal - it's a shame you can't change it into a mist spray or move the direction up and down. However, it does spray quite a bit of water out and you can change the arc that it sprays in.
The following morning, there was no cat mess and obvious signs that it had frightened the cat away (the netting had been pulled and a plant pot knocked over) so it certainly seems to be effective, despite my reservations on the spray. Several nights have now passed without any more mess - hooray!
There is room for improvement though - the device is crying out for an on and off switch - the only way to stop it is to turn off the hose or pull the batteries out (and with the hose turned off the device still detects movement and clicks to try and fire, so it's still using battery power up). The battery cover itself is screwed in with the world's smallest screws and they are very fiddly. You also have to test the device from time to time as there is no obvious indicator of battery level, although I am hoping after a couple of weeks the cat will have got the message and I'll be able to retire it, at least until the next time.
All in all, I am pleased that this has finally solved my cat problem and would recommend it.
Not Satisfactory April 28, 2008 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
Initially I thought the equipment was too sensitive. It seemed to be set off even by very small birds. Now, 1 week later, it doesn't work at all. Even me at 18stone and 6ft tall walking three feet away has no effect. I will be returning it and hoping for a replacement that does work. Watch this space!!!!!
