Great June 16, 2008 This item is great. I used to have one years ago however it broke so I had to replace it. This item means that I only go to the hairdressers twice a year, saving a fortune. Its not for people with short hair as it would not work for them, I do my hair once a month with mine which means I never have split ends,it's always manageable and looking healty.
Clumsy, but did the job quite well January 5, 2008 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Mine arrived this morning, and I was a little apprehensive about using it. I've used it on my hair for the first time and I CAN feel and see a difference: my hair feels much sleeker and tidier where the split ends have been trimmed. However, this device is not perfect, so I shall clearly state the good and bad points about it.
What's bad about it? *******************
* It would have been useful if the product description specifies that it takes 4 x AA batteries - so user will know what type to use in advance.
* The images of the product on all sites selling the device show it in a girly pink or turquoise: mine is a hideous shade of illuminous orange. But this is just a minor cosmetic issue - and I'm not particularly upset so long as it does it's purpose.
* The Plate Lock is flimsy, and care needs to be taken as sometimes the device will only work if the plate is locked, but on other occasions will activate even if the plate is not locked - i.e. as you are fitting your hair into the locking plate, so you need to ensure you switch the device off in between each time you slide it through your hair to avoid snagging. Also, you may need to gently squeeze the plates together from the centre as you use this, since there is a little too much give in the plates, so results might be uneven.
* Just a minor issue, but the device is very noisy
* The price is a bit steep given ho the product is manufactured! I'd have been happier if it were retailed at maybe 15 - 20 as that would have been better value for money.
What is good about it? ************************
* I have long wavy hair, and although it is clearly stated on the packaging that this product works best with straight hair (so you might need to straighten your hair first) I was able to do all my hair without difficulty and without having to get out the straightening irons first. The trick is to do it in several small, thin sections and just be patient.
* My hair feels very soft and looks neater having used this product. This does not sort out the split ends at the very tips of my hair, so a trim will still be needed (which I had already anticipated), but it has done a pretty good job on my midsections, where it had become broken and flyaway.
* Whilst some people might find the extra pack a little gimmicky and pointless, I will have to admit that the comb, clip and cleaning brush were surprisingly useful and well-made. I'm going to use the comb as a regular detangling comb whilst conditioning my hair as the teeth are wide and rounded, so ideal for this. The base stand is a bit pointless, but I shall keep it to hold the whole set together.
* The built-in safety mechanisms are very practical, so you cannot use the product if the blade housing is not in place, or the handle is not firmly attached to the main part.
* It is easy to disassemble the device for cleaning after use, and surprisingly little actually gets cut - this should reassure those who are frightened of thinning their hair out by using the device. When cleaning out the split-ender after use, I could see that the majority of the trimmed hairs were split ends, though there were non split hairs in their too.
In a nutshell, now that I've got it, I'll keep it as it did do a fairly good job. I just think its a bit too pricey for what it is and could be made a little more robust. Still, it does exactly what it says does.
It really works November 22, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful

Yes it does work for all hair types including afro carribbean hair no matter how tight. There is no possible way that you can cut off anymore than between 1/4 -1/8 inch because of the way it is designed. Be sure you do not get the counterfeit one (see official website splitender.co.uk or uk authorised distributor internetshopuk avaible on amazon). But it leaves your hair feeling silky smooth and you will not even notice the difference in length. Better than any hairdresser that I have come across because it is not scissor happy and you get the bits that hairdressers cannot. Its even better because some hair takes a long time to grow and hairdressers have the tendency of cutting the re-growth so you are always starting at square one My advice is get it it is well worth the money
