Amazon.co.uk Review In some countries, barbecuing is the basic means of cooking. Ainsley Harriott has travelled around the world to observe barbecuing techniques and Ainsley Harriott's Barbecue Bible is a both collection of the best recipes and a reference of techniques, style and flavourings for the grill. There is a wide range of barbecues to choose from nowadays, from small disposable trays to the most sophisticated grills set in glamorous trolleys with table attachments. Ainsley helps you make the choice by describing the benefits of charcoal, gas and wood. Once the equipment has been decided on, Ainsley adds some guidelines on chopping onions, peeling garlic, roasting spices and toasting pine kernels. His barbecuing tips range from using only extra thick foil to soaking wooden skewers in water to avoid boiling. The recipes are wide-ranging and include vegetarian and burger options. You'll find Char Sui Lettuce Rolls--the 'red' roast pork dish you can get in almost every Chinese restaurant--to spiced Indian kofta. Side dishes, from Sweet and Sour Minted Aubergines to Puy Lentil, Red Onion and Sundried Tomato Salad are included. A chapter is also devoted to marinades, glazes and sauces. For the true barbecue aficionado, there are barbecue puddings like Fired Strawberries and Cream, and Strawberry Hill Pineapple with Rum Butter Glaze. --Greg Seymour

Lots of Good Ideas November 11, 2005 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
My husband and I have used this book several times for BBQs at our house. We bought it simply becuse we wanted to have one book that covered ideas on BBQs(having got tired of hunting through all the other books for BBQ or possible BBQ recipes). I must say that so far most of the recipes I have tried out have got rave reviews. More importantly nothing has turned out horrible or nasty tasting, everything was good. We especially like the Pork Calypso and the Indian spice rub with fish. The pineapple and mango salsa is also fantastic. For the section on marinades and rubs and glazes and the the salsas and sauces, alone I would say the book is worthwhile.

I find this too self-promotional. Some of the recipes are admittedly good, others are mediocre. Fewer photos of Ainsley would only improve the contents.
Not to be missed! April 17, 2003 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
A great book with a wide range of recipes, starters, main courses, salads, side dishes, puddings, alcholic and non-alcoholic drinks; this book has it all. There's also a great section on BBQ basics for the complete novice. For those looking for more than the standard burger, banger or chicken drumstick at a BBQ then this is the book for you. The recepies also work well in the kitchen, so if your BBQ is rained off you can create many of the dishes inside.
a TRUE bbq-bible! March 1, 2002 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
This is the most used cookbook in our house during the summer months. (some recipes I know off by heart!) If you are looking for a BBQ book with new ideas and good recipes for old favourites, this book is it. Very easy to follow recipes for fantastic food and drink, lovely pictures and Ainsley's unique style. All you need for a stress free BBQ!
You can't go wrong December 13, 2001 15 out of 15 found this review helpful
Being the wife of a self proclaimed BBQ King and BBQ snob - I was almost thrown out for daring to bring a BBQ cookbook into the house. But Ainsley has done it!! The prawns were outstanding - the chicken wings with blue cheese dip were unbelievable. The BBQ King had never had as many compliments!! No receipe from this book as turned out badly. Highly recommended if you love the whole BBQ experience.
