BREAD FROM HEAVEN!! April 28, 2008 I've recently got the bug for making my own bread, and after buying Richard's book - boy have I got it bad now! I haven't bought and shop made bread since, not even from what they like to pass off as the 'bakery'. The instructions are simple and ideal for beginners but I'm sure there's enough receipes for even the more experienced. Richard's kneeding technique is well demonstrated on the DVD, and I find its quite theraputic when coming home from a hard day at work. My friends think I'm a bit mad but I just love the looks on their faces when they come round for dinner and see the Fougasses I prepared earlier! BRILLIANT you must buy it!!
So good I went on the course February 10, 2008 I bought this book and was so impressed with the recipes and ideas I have bought the " Crust " book and been on the course.
If you like real authentic bread then this is the book for you - be careful though you may become a "bread fanatic"
therapy in your hands January 31, 2008 I have made bread for several years and this book just blew me away. It is so inspirational and exciting and although the kneading technique is new to me I trusted his asssurance of Don,t add more water!! trust me it will come to a smooth silky dough and it does .The breadsticks were sensational. I want to do some sessions with my girlfriends now.
A true cook book December 9, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have tried to bake bread at home for years with decent but never good results. I saw this book at a friends house and fell in love with the photos which are stunning. Having purchased my copy and now done several of the recipes the results have been outstanding. Finally I can make those breads I so enjoy when in France and Italy.
I have now bought 3, or is it 4, copies, some as gifts for fellow cooks one for my mother as it was either buy her a copy or lose mine! If you buy only one cook book this Christmas treat yourself to one by a baker - not a TV chef or another one of those "My Trip to XXXXX" cook books but one by someone who has clearly mastered his craft and has the passion and knowledge to pass that information on.
The book is beautiful, The DVD really helps when you are getting started and the end results are wonderful.
Posh bread, but very easy! November 18, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
If you would like to bake bread but don't know where to start, or simply wish to improve on the quality and variety of your current bread...BUY THIS BOOK! This book is realy user friendly: it's not a huge tome, most of the breads have pictures, no jargon, very few ingredients required for most recipies and it's very easy to follow. Bertinet has a kneading technique that was new to me (most people probably) but he describes it step by step and it's on the DVD. The bread turns out moister and tastier :) This my favourite "cook book"!
