Every kind of bread recipe you could possibly want April 1, 2007 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
Since getting this book I have not needed to look anywhere else for a bread machine or hand made bread recipe. It has a huge selection of different types of sweet and savoury bread and rolls, even containing a small tea loaf/cake section at the back. The introductions are really useful and also interesting, and I have found the recipes consistently good. The only possible negative I can think of is that the basic bread machine loaves tend to be on the dense and heavy side, (perfect for melba toast!) but they still taste fantastic, and the introduction gives you enough knowledge to adapt the loaves to your preference. All in all brilliant value for an indispensable book for anyone with a breadmaker.
Truly the ultimate bread machine cookbook May 20, 2006 23 out of 23 found this review helpful
I bought several bread recipe books when I was given my new breadmaker. Some of these other books were much more expensive, but this book by Jenny Shapter was definitely by far the best. The layout is brilliant, the introduction chapter very compressive, and the recipes are all yummy and worth trying, and they all came out perfectly via my panasonic breadmaker. The sheer size (44) and weight of the volume was surprising, especially given the price - definitely the best value for money.
BRILLIANT November 10, 2004 22 out of 23 found this review helpful
A fab cook book for those of you who own a bread machine. The recipes can be used with any bread maker and the instructions are very easy to follow. The results are beautiful yummy bread recipes that you'll make over and over again. Highly recommend, and the price is great.
Hard to Fault February 23, 2004 39 out of 46 found this review helpful
I started to use a bread machine six months ago and haven't bought a commercially made loaf since. Up to now, I have only used the (very good) booklet that came with my Breville machine, and have obtained terrific results. Looking to expand my repertoire of recipes I chose this book, sat down and spent a whole evening reading it, and found it very hard to fault. The introductory section is excellent, covering most of what one needs to know. I certainly gained a lot of knowledge from it. The recipes (not tried yet) are impeccably written, and each and every one gives highly detailed instructions – it would appear hard to go wrong. I think I will enjoy experimenting with many of them. And the book's production is superb, from the easy to follow layout to the outstanding photographs accompanying every recipe.A minor gripe is the section on starters, which is poorly written – a pity, since this is probably the area where most amateurs get both scared and confused. A more major annoyance is the absence of a supplier list for ingredients and equipment. Even before I bought this book I have wandered the high street from health food stores to supermarkets looking for ingredients. Now, with even more ingredients mentioned, I am frustrated. It shouldn't be hard to tell us where some of the more obscure ingredients are readily available. And, in the age of the internet, to give web site addresses where we can order them by mail. Okay, it has one rather pathetic page on bread machine suppliers, but that is the easy bit! This is a five-star book, let down only by the areas mentioned above – and by the fact there is no e-mail address to offer my comments directly to the producers for consideration in future editions. Having said that, I would still highly recommend The Ultimate Bread Machine Cookbook.
