MAKES GREAT BRICKS FOR HOUSEBUILDING June 28, 2008 I replaced my ancient Panasonic with this one only because of the large loaf size. Yesterday I joyfully unwrapped it and set about baking my first loaf.
Watching through the illuminated viewing window all my older children kept saying "mum, it looks horrible!"
Following the white bread recipe for the largest loaf, read out to me and checked stage by stage by my niece, I was aghast at just how much sugar you were supposed to add - 4 tablespoons....
I chose the dark crust.
The bottom half of the bread did have a dark crust but the top was positively anaemic.
It tasted sweet with a heavy doughy consistency - most unpleasant.
I have already contacted the store who are collecting it on Tuesday and have given me a full refund as it is not fit for the purpose - I wanted edible bread, not stodgy house bricks.
I have just ordered the replacement for my dear old Panasonic, which kept going for over 6 years without a hitch. The new Panasonic will be here on Tuesday.
You have been warned.

This machine broke down after less than a year's use; flashing 'E05' on the display. I consulted the faults page in the handbook which told me to phone the number appropriate to my location. I did this and the nice lady on the end of the phone said, "Well, for that fault you should turn the machine off and then on again. If it works it's fixed, if it's still flashing E05 it's broken and we can't fix it."
They could have printed THAT in the handbook; saved me a phone call.
I later bought a budget machine from Aldi or Lidl for a quarter of this price which works perfectly well.
Very poor build quality January 4, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
The first machine was damaged within its original packaging (quality control?) and had to be replaced. On the new machine the interior light bulb "exploded" within two weeks. After six months I had to open the control panel because the touch buttons had jammed. Finally, after only two years the motor packed up. Shame about the mechanical qualities, as the bread always turned out pretty good - still, I won't ever buy this make again.
A great disappointment December 29, 2007 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Having a yeast intolerance this breadmaker seemed to be a fantastic solution for me. Being Breville and with Anthony Worrell Thompson's name attached, I thought it must be a good machine. However, it is such a HUGE disappointment. I made a plain white loaf to start with (just to get to grips with the machine), I used to so-called turbo setting. The bread came out uncooked and there was still flour in the corners which hadn't been mixed in properly! The second loaf I made (again a normal white loaf) I stuck to the original longer time. The bread again did not cook (in 3 and a half hours!!) and there was still flour in the corners. You are supposed to be able to continue baking if the bread needs extra time by pressing the bake function. This did not work. Even after allowing the maching to cool for half an hour it still would not allow me to bake for any extra time. I tried a yeast-free loaf. Whilst this worked better than the plain loaves, it still came out of the maching looking like it needed cooking slightly longer (which I couldn't do) and with flour in all of the corners where the ingredients had not been mixed properly. The breadmaker is also very noisy (my mum has a Panasonic and that doesn't make a sound). This machine has now gone back in the box ready to be returned before I waste any more time and money on ingredients for bread that will not cook properly (the ducks on my local river will be having a great feed!). This is a great disappointment to me as this is the only machine that I have seen so far that does yeast-free bread.
Your Rights December 15, 2007 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Hi, Most people have the misunderstanding that after the 1 year guarantee is over and the item develops a fault , you have no rights WRONG..a product is not made to last just the one year , it should last a reasonable time ( 2 and 3 years is not reasonable). So if a product fails 2 or 3 years after purchase and you can prove that it is a manufacturing fault or you can not fix the item because the manufacturer doesn't supply the parts , as in this case of this bread maker where a number of people reporting similar faults. You can request that the product be fixed or replaced or money refunded....if they do neither , take them to a small claims court .Tell the company this in writing ..... you may find you will get a more positive results if you do this.
Use the internet to find other users with a similar fault and take the results to the court if it gets that far...don't let them rip you off.
All the best,
SCc
