Great baking book full of simple, easy to follow recipes May 6, 2008 I was given this lovely little book as a present and it has been very useful and rewarding. It gives you a wide range of unfussy, simple recipes for many different types of `bakes' e.g. tortes, loafs, muffins and cookies, suitable for many different occasions. The instructions are clear and helpful, including advice as to how long things keep, whether they freeze well etc. Personally, I like to follow simple recipes that work well which I can then adapt to suit my own tastes, and this book is perfect for this. Each recipe is accompanied by a picture which is always a help. The only thing I would say is there are an awful lot of recipes which include nuts. This is not a problem limited to this baking book (Delia's baking recipes are often brimming with nuts), and indeed is not necessarily a problem unless you are allergic, which unfortunately my housemate is. This book is excellent value for money and I would definitely buy more of this series.
Great little cook book April 2, 2008 I bought this book a good while ago and it's one of the best value for money cook books you will ever buy. Great, clear recipies with pictures of what the end product should look like. I have tried at least half the recipies and have not found a dud yet. Excellent!
Favourtie Cake Book March 27, 2008 Brilliant selection of recipes, quite a few unusual ideas and the inclusion of the best cake i've ever made - the blueberry and cream cheese one. I've lent this to a friend and am going to have to demand it back.
In a class of its own! March 21, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Like all the other reviewers here, I think this book is just fantastic. In the past few months I have purchased an enormous amount of books to indulge my new baking hobby - none of them more worthy for a mention than this one. The book is great for the simple reason that the recipes WORK every time. The recipes are all simply laid out and instructions are very very easy to follow. I've baked quite a few cakes and cookies from the book and amazingly enough they have come out perfect and just like the picture!
The other great things about this book is that there is a huge variety in the type of things you can make - so many types of cake, cookies, brownies, muffins, flapjacks, tea bread, tortes etc! I've purchased a few books where it's basically just the same recipe appearing again and again with just a little variation here and there (here's one with fruit and here's one with chocolate) The 101 Cakes and bakes has so many different recipes there's bound to be something for everyone. There's even a breakdown of calorie and fat content which isn't available in most of the other books I've used.
I could rave about this book all day but I think you get the point - if you only buy one baking book, BUY THIS! :)
