A real gem February 2, 2008 For the past few years I've found myself cooking the same sorts of dishes, spending a couple of hours in the kitchen, making something that would last a few nights. But they weren't particularly exciting; not the 10th time around, at least. The odd take-away or pre-packed meal got me through the end of the week when I was too tired to cook.
A friend bought me Real Fast Food a month ago. What can I say? This is transforming my cooking. Truly inspirational. Without a doubt the best and most practical cook book I own. I can't recommend it enough.
The book has a great "store cupboard list" of ingredients that will help ensure you are always able to make something that hits the spot - tasty, varied and and quick dishes that never fail to delight. People have called Nigel Slater a genius, and the more I use this book, the more I think they are right. I can understand why other reviewers say that their copies are dog-eared and greasy - it doesn't leave my kitchen bench, either. Add to basket.
Its in rags August 3, 2006 11 out of 13 found this review helpful
Some years back I bought a min-pengiun version of this book. The recipts were so good that I persuaded my Mun to give me the full version for my birthday. That was in 1995! The receipts are simple, fast and refreshing... I still find new twists on old thems after all these years. My poor recipt book is now in rags....
A book to return to again and again. June 24, 2006 21 out of 21 found this review helpful
My copy of this is practically worn out so I am about to purchase another one.
It is one of the most used cookery books on my shelf - always turn to it when I am short of time and low on inspiration and can always find something quick and tasty to rustle up, even if the cupboards and 'fridge are looking rather bare.
I love this book!
A dull book this is April 24, 2006 10 out of 34 found this review helpful
I had high hopes for this book. I am a keen and getting keener maker of dinners and on first glance this book isn't helpfull.
Its not presented very well, certainly not as user friendly as other books I own.
Also there are no glossy pictures to show the finished product, the paper isn't of the necessary quality to keep the book in good condition when in a kitchen with mucky, wet paws!!
A great recipe book - simple, delicious and quick December 26, 2005 27 out of 28 found this review helpful
Nigel Slater is one of the best cookery writers - here he creates simple, no fuss recipes that are very fast to make. But the way he writes is very elegant and filled with a his love of food. If you're sick of ready-meals, read this book!
