Fab book! July 1, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I love this book. I've been borrowing a copy from the library for months now whilst trying with disappointment to buy one. Now its released again I can finally return the library's copy! The recipes in this book are well presented and easy to follow. I'm no cook (as my husband will tell you!) but even I have had some successes using this book! Only this evening I cooked Aunt Marys Tuna Pie and it went down very well. The huge pile of washing up not so - I dirty everything when I cook, but they loved the food! I can also highly recommend the Morrocan Lamb. The book looks great too. It's bold and funky with great photographs. There is a good range of recipes. Some are quite simple when you look at them but it's the simplicity of them that makes them so fab for mums like me who are not very confident in the kitchen. Others are a little more advanced but always well written and easy to follow. Its nice to know that these are tried, tested and loved recipes too. Each one tells you the name of its contributor...a nice personal touch. Buy this book. I love it! It's great! And it's for charity!
Fantastic!! March 23, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I purchased the hardcover version last week and its wonderful. I made 4 recipes from it over the weekend - particularly the microwave meringue and they went down a treat and tasted amazing. The children loved them all. A must buy - you will not be disappointed. Have fun ........
Tasty and easy to make recipes October 20, 2006 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have really enjoyed making the recipes from this book and my son has enjoyed eating them! Everything is clearly laid out so you know from what age each recipe is suitable, what the nutitional content is and how long it'll take to make. It's got quick 10 minute meals to more time consuming ones and lovely, fun to make puds. Great stuff - plus the profits from the sale are going to a very good cause.
fantastic cooking for and with kids May 22, 2006 18 out of 18 found this review helpful
This is an excellent book. Like many families and despite my best intentions, I realised we had got stuck in a rut of a few staple, reasonably healthy dishes that suited everyone - a 3 year old, 6 year old and 2 adults and any number of 3 and 6 year old friends - in order to avoid the dreaded cry of 'but I don't LIKE that'. I've only had this book four days, but already I've made three of the recipes from it, and my kids have pored over it (they LOVE the pictures and the funky design) and have eaten things they would have sworn a week ago that they didn't like. The author clearly understands the frustration of slaving over a hot stove only to have one's offerings rejected, but she never panders to blinkered perceptions of children's tastes, for children can be surprisingly sophisticated, and the range of recipes reflect that. They also range from the completely simple to the rather more complicated, and some of the ideas are so ingenious and accurate that I've been wondering why I hadn't thought of them.
My 6-year old also wanted to know why it was called Cooking with Daisy, and was very sad to hear about what happened to Daisy, and had a little cry and a lot of questions, and it's made him all the more keen to make 'her' recipes and help a good cause (he wants to give copies to all his friends). Daisy's story runs through the book in a very poignant but never too depressing way - it's dotted with lovely little stories about her, of the food that she loved to cook and eat with the other members of her family, and of her two siblings who will never meet her but who will never forget her. It's a book that reminds us of what we have, and how we must cherish that every day, even (and especially) in the simple, daily pleasures of cooking and eating with our children.
Fantastic food for kids April 18, 2006 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
I have seen an advance copy of this and it is great. Good food for kids but adding back in the fun of cooking and food. Lots of good recipes that the kids like but all simple to make. Recips for kids and to cook with kids. Buy it - its for a really important charity.
