So far so good, and good tasting food February 11, 2007 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
My husband has been after one of these for a long time, but I just did not want to pay loads of money for something that will be used once and put back in the cupboard. Well, I do not think that is the case for this beauty. It has been out of the box since it arrived and has been used for various things, toasted sandwiches, burgers, tomatoes, bacon....good healthy food!!! anyway it is a brill grill. He loves and I love it cos it means no more fire alarms going off from my spitting grill. It is easy to clean and the juices fall easily into the drip tray, which is even better. Do clean it whilst it is still warm as it is much easier, as the plates do not come of, so best whilst it is hot!!! also the price is a good price, you get so much more for you money, buy it now even for a gift for someone in the future.
Very good for the price January 11, 2007 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I bought this grill for 13.59, largely on a whim but mostly because I got fed-up having to clean the fat from my cooker's grill pan after cooking pork or steak. I'd keep postponing this dirty job, so in the end the pan would get full of solidified fat and then the next time I cooked the fat would start to burn and set off my smoke alarm !
The grill is a lot bigger than I expected and could certainly cook enough for two people. I was surprised that the unit doesn't have any controls on it whatsoever. It doesn't even have its own on/off switch. You have to either use the switch on the wall socket or plug it in and out of the socket each time it's used, which I find a little inconvenient.
There's also no temperature control but a friend says that his more expensive George Foreman grill is the same in these two respects. It's a shame the temperature can't be controlled so that some foods can be cooked more slowly than others.
The drip tray which collects the fat slots into the front of the grill, rather than merely being free-standing on the counter top as I've seen on some other grills. I like this feature - it seems neater and it's reassuring that the tray is always in the correct position to catch all the run-off.
Once the grill has cooled down after use, it's quite easy to clean the cooking surfaces with a damp sponge and is certainly easier than cleaning a conventional grill pan. I find it's less effort to clean the surfaces while they are still warm, rather than after they've entirely cooled down and the fat residues have solidified. It's a shame the cooking plates aren't detachable so they can be thoroughly washed but you get what you pay for.
The best thing is that the grill doesn't produce any smoke when it's being used - my problem (or laziness) is solved !
All in all, I'm quite happy with this item.
