When you first look as this small paperback it is so un-like the modern, lavishly illustrated tomes that you might wonder if it will be of any use. However, Joyce Stubbs describes everything so well that you won't need pictures. The chapters are divided by ingredients ie Meat, Fish, Vegetables etc and each is preceded by a description of the Greek home-life which she conveys so well.
I must say, however, that this a 'cooks' cookbook, by which I mean it is for someone who sometimes cooks by feel rather than by the book. It is also a must for any Grekophile with its descriptions of Greek life.
My well-thumbed copy falls open on such dishes as Kleftiko, Stifado and Baklava. Make these and you will be back at your favorite taverna. I come back time and again to try different recipies and get ideas and am never disappointed.
