This book really is a foolproof guide to baking, I've tried making cakes for years with little success - I'd almost given up until I decided to give the undisputed 'Queen of Baking' Mary Berry a go. So far I've made the chocolate brownies, choc-chip cookies and the carrot cake with mascarpone frosting - all with astounding results! So long as you heed Mary's own advice in following the recipies to the letter you really cannot go wrong!!!

You can't go wrong with this book. I have never been much of a baker until I got this book. Now I am considered one of the best among my friends. When they ask me my secret, I point them (unselfishly, I must add) towards this book. The recipes are relatively easy, organised and look and taste yummy. I love the favourite cakes section, and have made the gingerbread cake so many times and its perfect every time. Look no further if you are a starter baker and love precise, easy to make recipes.

Great book, great illustrations. Each recipe takes you step by step through the baking process. All the cakes actually do look like the pictures when you've finished, they use readily-available ingredients and a fairly short ingredient list, so it doesn't take you ages to find everything you need. Lovely cakes, taste as good as they look, and they don't last long......
