Ideal Family Microwave January 2, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Just after Christmas my old faithful microwave gave up the ghost. It was a Sharp Carousel II which had provided 20 years of great service. After checking out reviews on this site and others I decided the Panasonic GT576S would be the best microwave choice for my needs. I mostly use it to heat or defrost food and occasionally make a hot chilli. My previous microwave didn't have a grill like the new one so that's an added bonus. It's spacious enough for large casserole dishes and heats up my pre cooked dinners very quickly. Like everything new it takes time to get to know how to use some of the programs but it seems straight forward although not basic. It's solidly built and seems sturdy enough although I'm unsure it will last 20 years like the last one!! The only negative point I have to make is that it's quite noisy in comparison to my old one. You get what you pay for so if you are looking for a quality microwave then look no further.
Affordable excellence September 26, 2007 23 out of 23 found this review helpful
Had this unit now for around months and can say I'm delighted. When I consider what I have got at this price point I'm even more delighted. Simply put, it cooks or prepares food beautifully. The recipes in the accompanying manual are terrific, being quick to prepare and delicious. As someone has already mentioned the 'panacrunch' pan is a revelation, for meats. My favourite is our local Cumberland sausage with well seasoned grilled / cooked vine tomatoes - done in about 4 minutes with no mess inside. The same holds for the gratin potatoes that go with this 'quick and dirty' dish. The 'viper' reviewer has it wrong, this NOT a convection oven in the traditional sense (you cannot do Yorkshire pud in it.) It is a combination microwave / grill, with a fan. You have to go to another price point to get a combi with convection heating. The fan in this model 'convects' the heat from its 2 sources and thus aides even cooking. It is little wonder 'vipers' food got burnt. Follow the manual, and you will not burn your food. As a bonus to cooking good food, it looks good, is ergonomically sound, seems to have a high quality build (will last a long time) and is dead easy to keep clean. The manual is outstandingly clear, consise and has scores of delicious meals, that will take you beyond defrosting and cooking a stodgy pizza when you come in at night. If you need one cooking device this is it, at this price point it is probably unbeatable when you look at the features. If you have a normal stove / oven and what the convienence a microwave brings into the kitchen, this is the one. Same applies if your old one has packed up or your new kitched requires a new microwave unit.
Good microwave let down by the oven March 22, 2007 12 out of 17 found this review helpful
After my last microwave combination oven ran out of microwaves, I went for this model based on the reviews here and else where.
First off it looks good, and as the manufacturer states the inverter technology reduces the weight, it's easily a few kilo's lighter than the my old one. The usable area inside is excellent and the heater elements are enclosed for easy cleaning. The controls are intuitive and it's easy to operate, it would have been nice to have a 24H clock though. Also the display is only readable if your level with the unit - which as it's designed to be sat on a work surface is only readable if your under five foot tall, anything over that and all the LED elements are visisble, could have done with a darker cover to prevent this.
The microwave funciton does that, microwaves, wouldn't expect anything more really, it's great that on reduced power the power actually reduces instead of just blasting the contents in pulses giving much more even cooking. Now the downside. I think the design of the convection/grill fuctionality is awfull. The element is towards the rear, so when on grill mode your bacon or whatever is only under the grill momentarily each time as the turntable spins, anything in the middle of the turn table wouldn't be under the grill at all! Being a quartz jobbie it does heat up very quickly.
The same element is used for the convection oven - and doesn't actually turn off. Sure it's fan assisted but I've found the thing just cremates the top due to the element, the heat is kept constant seemingly not by reducing the elements output but emitting the excess heat with external fans. This unit does a very good job at heating your home! All my previous convection ovens have a seperate element in the back of the oven and you never had this issue, it's output also varied being full on when preheating then reduces the output just enough to keep the internal temerature constant The pre-heat time was also very slow, the reason I go for combination ovens is to save using the main oven for smaller items, but based on how long the preheat was, how ineffective it is at keeping the temperature constant without warming your house at the same time, I bet the main oven will be more efficient.
Overall I'm disapointed in it due to the poor convection oven which is a big let down.

Superb microwave - best I've ever had December 31, 2006 23 out of 23 found this review helpful
When trying to decide on a new microwave I took a chance and bought this one on the glowing recommendation of the first (and only other review so far) on here! I have not been disappointed.
This microwave is the best I've had (my previous one cost as much but far less impressive). This one does everything it says it does - the panacrunch pan is a brilliant concept - pizza is a breeze, lovely crisp base. I love the spacious interior and large turntable. It cooks very evenly. At the end of the cooking period the fan sometimes stays on which is a bit unnerving at first, but apparently this is to cool the electronic elements - and frankly, it also seems to remove any steam or moisture which is good.
I agree wholeheartedly with everything said by the first reviewer. This microwave also looks good and the stainless steel interior is easy to keep clean. A very satisfying buy - I am thrilled with it.
magnetron masterpiece August 29, 2006 39 out of 41 found this review helpful
At first glance, the 576s looked a little different amongst the ordered regiments of White goods- I had a closer look and was pleased to see "900 Watts" marked discretely on a front corner. It seemed decent value compared with "The Others" and, having had a Panasonic micro before, I had eyes for no others once I had opened the door once or twice and had felt the precise "click" on closure. The machine is fast. A large mug of milk is heated right through in 2 minutes and it works quietly- And no tinny "ding" at time up. The grill is also fast and even and I would recommend anyone to try the Pizza pan which has transformed our fast food habits! Great pizza recipes are supplied also. To sum up- A handsome stainless machine which looks a little smaller than it is and which cooks great quickly. Single men beware- Your guests will appreciate the bacon cooked in this machine a little too much.....
