At last! Interesting, delicious, easy slow cooker recipes for vegetarians March 1, 2008 19 out of 19 found this review helpful
Almost every slow cooker recipe I've ever made has been tomato-based. Recipe books are full of slow-cook meat recipes and stews, but I was bored already, after just a few months of owning my slow cooker.
So I had high hopes for this recipe book and I have to say it has exceeded my expectations.
Firstly, the recipes actually are vegetarian (many of them are vegan). I say this because other slow cooker recipe books have "vegetarian" sections which are packed with meat stock, chicken soup, fish sauce and bacon in the ingredients!
Secondly, the recipes are easy and they work. Again, despite being pretty experienced in the kitchen, I've had the experience of embarrassing failures with other slow cooker recipe books.
Thirdly, just reading the recipes made me want to get cooking! They are inspiring, delicious and simple to follow. There are hints for how to prepare the night before, to save time, and also variations on the recipes, to keep them interesting.
I highly recommend this book for vegetarian slow cooker users and also non-veggies who are bored of meat casseroles and fancy a change.
So far my favourite recipes from this book are:
Peanut & Potato Loaf Raspberry Custard Cake Lentil Shepherd's Pie Wild Rice With Mushrooms & Apricots French Onion Soup Caramelised Onions Hot Roasted Nuts
I hope you enjoy this recipe book!
A great book for beginners with a slow cooker January 21, 2008 17 out of 17 found this review helpful
This book is great it has a helpful guide at the start on how to use your cooker including some tips. Which are really needed as my cooker didn't come with very good instructions and tips.
The recipes are clear and have tips down the side which I have found very useful. I really like the make ahead tips as you can flick through and find recipes which you can prepare the night before, leave in the fridge and then put in the cooker the next morning.
Yes the book does not contain many pictures, but the descriptions/tips are so good you know what you are doing by following the instructions.
What an amazing cookbook! November 8, 2007 24 out of 24 found this review helpful
I love this cookbook, it is fantastic. I've made loads of recipies from it which were all easy to follow and yummy. I use this cook book almost every day now. I have alot of other cook books and usually try two or three of the recipes but this one I've made about 12 things from and I'm still working my way through it. The ingredients are all easy to find and it is a great book if you are trying to eat seasonally. I make my family's dinner in the morning but I don't need to wait around for it to cook, I just switch the slow cooker on and then go about my day. Fantastic book!
