a must have September 2, 2003 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book is excelent. It gives you all the nutritional info you need and the basic how to cook instructions for things like beans and pulses. My own copy is starting to get tatty now and I'm always on the lookout for a new copy, but as it appears to be out of print and everyone who has a copy seems to be keeping hold of it regardless of condition, I think this says alot for this book on its own. I highly recommend this book for all who are new to vegitarian cooking and all those veges who want more interesting but easy to follow recepes.
Excellent book! September 16, 2002 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I completely disagree with the review already mentioned on the page. This is an excellent cookbook, full of interesting recipes. The measuring system used is standard - given in grams and in ounces. The other reviewer appears to be from Canada where I believe they still measure in cups - which is equally as frustrating for someone from the uk trying to use a canadian or american recipe.
Fantastic May 28, 2002 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have owned this book for the best part of ten years now and still use it regularly (it is falling apart by now). A great range of veggie food, especially staples and basics. Could go on forever about various recipes, but she definitely does the best scone recipe I have ever made. Really good variety of foods and clearly divided into sections. Also a useful section at the front for the less experienced cook (if you need to know what some veggie ingredients are or what to do with them, this is the place to look). Totally recommend this, especially as a first starting place for people who are trying to eat less meat or have just gone veggie. Although plenty to use for long term veggies as well.
Total Frustration March 8, 2002 0 out of 5 found this review helpful
I have had this cookbook for some time now. I search through it and find an interesting recipe but when it comes time to put it all together, I can't do it because of the measurement system. Even the measurement equivalents table is of no help. I've made every effort to figure it out and I spend copious amounts of time, every time, because I REALLY want to use the book. Well, I'm frustrated for the last time ..... I'm getting rid of the book. Whatever happened to cups and teaspoons, etc.?
