1 out of 5 stars Poor book, not useful, read back of the packets and save your money   July 8, 2008

I don't care to get into the controversy over whether or not this is part of this food movement or whether it sends the right message... all I wanted to know when I read it was whether Delia presented simple, day-to-day recipes that I could use when I was in a hurry and wanted something nice for the family.

Totally disappointed. Why? -- very simple: I do not need to spend money on a book to tell me to read the back of the packet of pre-packaged foods in the supermarket.

I don't have anything against the occassional use of a ready meal or a frozen ingredient, but why would I want to spend money for a batch of recipes that basically tell me nothing more than the information on the packaging tells me: open, pour, stir in a can of...

I returned this book for a full refund. Useless.

4 out of 5 stars I haven't had the heart to say I cheated!!   May 31, 2008

I'm really impressed with this book mainly for the reason that it's been my saviour recently for last minute meals that I've had to prepare for visitors. I haven't had the heart to say I've cheated but I've had nothing but compliments for the food, even from my fiancee who can't stand capers!
I recommend this for real kitchen cheats who want to guarentee a tasty meal. If you want to sit back and take the full credit yourself, try something else!
It's also good value at the moment. I've not seen it cheaper anywhere else.

5 out of 5 stars Nice to have a new one   May 29, 2008

Its great to have a cook book from someone who actually cooks at home and knows how we have to manage. Follow the recipe and it works, which is more than can be said for some "gourmet" recipe books. Welcome back Delia!

1 out of 5 stars you will be cheated!!!   May 28, 2008

My mum (bless her), bought this book without knowing the focus of the recipes. It should have been titled "How to treat the British cooking public like idiots and make more money at the same time." Evidently, 'Cheat!' was a shorter title. Stick to getting drunk and slurring over the PA system at footy matches Delia. I've lost all respect for you.

1 out of 5 stars factory hens and grocery (sainsburys) store profits   May 27, 2008
5 out of 13 found this review helpful

Delia obviously knows nothings about nutrition - bless her, she's a different generation: believes all the hype about factory farming and gladly gives the thumbs up saying it's okay for poor people to buy inferior (poisoned?) meat. What's worse is that alot of people (my mum included!) will buy this book. We all know she works with/for sainsburys. Here she is pushing the pre-packed/ready made ingredients....

Good for you or good for profits?

You decide.
