A wonderful, eclectic collection of personal recipies. July 25, 2001 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
In the introduction to this book Sophie states that there is no unifying theme to the recipies, but rather that they are dishes that she herself enjoys making and eating, and thinks worth passing on. As a result, this is a book that is a genuine delight to dip into, when you want something imaginative and a little different; intelligent recipies that are stamped with Sophie's unmistakable signature. Try the Baked Anchovy and Brie Sandwiches, Hot Beetroot and Apple with Sour Cream, Cod with Seville Orange, Caponata, Tomato Bredy, Sausages with Plums and Yellow Pepper, and a whole host of delicious and inventive puddings. No small part of the joy of reading this book are the pithy vignettes that introduce each recipie. As with all Sophie's books, this one does what all good cookbooks should do: Titillate one's appetite, and stimulate one's mind. Strongly recommended.
Unusual but delicious recipes, easy to prepare November 25, 1999 This little book is my most thumbed cookery book. Whatever the occasion I turn first to Sophie's Table for 'different' vegetarian ideas, little supper dishes and delicious puddings. Tried and tested favourites are Les Gateaux Piments, Mushroom Risotto with Marsala, Grilled Salmon with Japanese Ginger, Maltese Tomato and Caper Sauce for Fish, Duck Breasts with Figs, Honey and Wine, Blood Oranges in Rosemary Syrup, Salami del Papa and Hot Chocolate and Orange Souffle. Not maybe a beginer's cookbook - there are no pictures - it is a wonderful collection of recipes for anyone interested in good, well flavoured food.
