Stright forward receipies August 24, 2005 14 out of 16 found this review helpful
As with other reviews I would say that the book is very well laided out.The receipies are kept to 4 or 5 steps with batches of ingredients being added rather than one at a time. This means instructions are straight forward. True some of the ingredients can be seen as exotic but most would be found in a supermarket. The point is there is a need to shop and eat differently if you have diabetes. Carrying on as before is not going to help much. I can see some of these meals as becoming regular fixtures to our diet as they are good for me and the rest of the family. I need some receipies that are different that can be for a special meal that all people can eat. There is a need for more "ordinary" meals but many here are prepared in under 30 minutes. Could the book be improved...well yes but it is a really good resource.
Diabetes UK Cookbook December 8, 2003 35 out of 35 found this review helpful
For the unitiated cooking healthy diabetic-friendly meals! The book is well laid out and the recipes are delicious and slightly more imaginative than the usual fayre. Each recipe includes a comment about why certain ingredients are appropriate for diabetics. Educational and interesting introductory pages also.
Very disappointing! October 8, 2003 62 out of 65 found this review helpful
This book is beautifully printed and well laid out. However, the content is very disappointing. There is good information at the beginning about the disease. The recipe section is not what I would call 'everyday' and includes, for example, in the starters section 'goat's cheese crostini with hazelnut salsa' and in the main meals section 'Thai prawn & Vegetable Curry' and 'Pork and Coriander Meatballs with Tomato Sauce'. All very nice but not what most people, with busy working lives, would have time to do. I was hoping for 'ordinary' recipes, adapted for diabetics with advice on substitutions for everyday ingredients. I suppose if you want the occasional dish for something different, this is ok but it wasn't for me.
