Good - but not necessarily for students? July 1, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I am a new student and was bought this book as a gift, although it is a very good recipe book with simple, easy-to-follow instructions and a wonderful cocktail section (!) I wouldnt really suggest it as the best book for students? I say this because of the ingrediants list, it contains things such as 'small handful of fresh parsley, chopped', '1/2 teaspoon tumeric', 'cumin seeds' and 'dried mixed herbs' which in my experience arent normally items found in a students cupboard? My mother makes a lovely shepherds pie without using parsley or oregano (and I didnt even know what passata was!) and in my opinion a simpler ingrediants list would make this recipe much more accessible to students!
Cheap, simple, tasty January 11, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this book shortly after going to Uni, everything I've cooked from it has been good, and all the recipes have worked. It's not your typical student cookbook in that it doesn't completely lead you by the hand and some of the ingredient lists are a little more complicated than you find in most student books. On the other hand that's precisely why I was attracted to it, far too many of the other books I looked at seemed to suggest that preparing macaroni cheese was the zenith of student cooking. If you understand basic cooking and want something interesting to eat, student or not, then this is the book for you.
family essential October 17, 2007 im not a student ,i have a husband and 3 children and this is probably the best, most used and useful cookbook i own and i have alot!!. some simple basic recipes even your kids can do and alot of old favourites that ive never had an exact recipe for. useful for everyone and not a duff recipe so far, absolutely no complaints!! a book for everyone not just students, i liked it so much ive ordered the vegetarian version and we are definiately not vegetarian. real food for real families.
Great, and not just for students May 20, 2007 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
We bought this book for my daughter ready for when she moved into a student house. Tried out a couple of recipes, and was really impressed. When she left and took the book with her, we had to go and get another copy...
Where have you been all my life? January 11, 2007 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I am a mother and wife but cannot cook well and seem to eat the same old dishes week in week out. This was until i found this cookbook. My friend had the vegetarian student cookbook and said it was good. I bought it today and made the chicken and broccoli risotto. My family loved it!! Can't wait to do some more tasty dishes.
