uninspiring recipes July 31, 2007 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
I borrowed this book from the library and found the recipes to be disappointing, nothing I liked enough to bother cooking but maybe I'm just not an Ainsley fan. I would recommend instead "The Australian Women's Weekly 501 Low-fat Recipes". A big volume divided into Breakfast, light meals, starters and soups mains by seafood, poultry, beef, pork, lamb, vegetarian and desserts. The recipes are excellent using no fake products.
BMI BUSTER! August 3, 2006 17 out of 18 found this review helpful
I have zillions of cookbooks and diet/exercise/improve yourself type books. Ainsley's book beats the lot, I am a busy worker, mum and housewife combined I find shopping for the ingredients very easy, cooking times are pretty accurate too, the taste factors are excellent given the short prep time but the best of the lot is the weight loss factor! Girls and Guys follow this book and you will win very quickly. The other thing is your just not hungry between meals, even the kids like what food is coming up and helping prepare it too! I am delighted thanks Ainsley well done and keep em coming you are the best!
Good, clear layout with great photos. July 22, 2006 11 out of 14 found this review helpful
I would've given this five stars if it wasn't for the fact that quite a few of the ingredients are unavailable here where I live and it would have been a good idea perhaps to provide alternatives. Eg: 'quark, papaya, mangos, udon noodles , pak choy(??). Not all of us have a super Sainsbury's just round the corner you know!! Apart from that it's great - great photos, set out clearly with all the calorie, fat etc. contents. Now all I have to do it think about some alternatives for the unavailable ingredients! No problem for me as an experienced cook, but might be for beginners.
Yummy! June 15, 2006 16 out of 16 found this review helpful
I really like this book. Not only are the foods low fat but they're really tasty. There is nutritional information for all of the recipes so if you're calorie counting its easy.
Don't expect this to be as fast as a micro meal (as one of my friends expected) but don't expect to have to spend more that half an hour making a meal. This is really wonderful if you're trying to cook more but have little time or generally can't be bothered. Most of these are minimal effort and even though some have massive ingredients lists (that normally puts me off) it's generally just a case of chucking them all together.
This is real food for real people, not namby pamby restaurant stuff
Amazing! May 10, 2006 14 out of 14 found this review helpful
I've tried over half the recipes now and they have all been great so far. I love it. Perfect for when you get home from work, you haven't got much time (or energy) to cook but you want a delicous, quick, healthy meal! Friends and family love it! The recipes are easy, dare I say fool proof!
