A few words of advice July 18, 2007 7 out of 9 found this review helpful
I am always suspicious of authors that churn out book after book on the same subject. They're obviously on to a good thing making themselves richer at the expense of people that are gullible and desperate to lose weight. This book has some good common sense advice but buying it won't change your life. Behind the need to lose weight there are often other underlying problems, like low self-esteem or lack of motivation, or just a very busy life because some of us have to so some real work to survive and pay the mortgage, which leaves little time to exercice or go shopping so it's easier to grab some junk food on the way home. Also, this book lists so many different foods that it all becomes a blurr, 50% of the foods listed I never heard of. Why can't these authors come up with a book for REAL people? Most of us don't have time to do half the things she suggests and therefore we don't do them, which means that buying the book was a waste of time. A few words of advice: cut out the junk, eat more fruit and veg, steam or microwave your veggies, exercise or just walk more, and instead of buying books about dieting, treat yourself to some healthy food. Above all, seek the support of other people to get you kick started, when you start losing the weight, there's no stopping you. There's lots of free advice on the Internet, you'll find what's right for you.
Brilliant and informative March 2, 2007 4 out of 12 found this review helpful
This book is fantastic, it has everything you would need to know. It also has lots of helpfull pages about determining your own health and has descriptions of all of the problems you may have with your tongue, fingernails etc and what this indicates about your health. It also features diet tips and plans and Gillians' Detox, as well as lots of healthy recipies.
They dont come much better than this!
I would deffinatly reccomend this book for people who want to loose weight - or who are just looking for a healthier lifestyle, especially to fans of Dr Gillian McKeith or of the TV show You Are What You Eat.
An eye opener February 11, 2007 4 out of 11 found this review helpful
This book is good reading the more you read it the more you learn, it has all the answers, why the body has various ailments. Well recommended.
I'd give it zero stars February 5, 2007 28 out of 39 found this review helpful
This is the worst type of pseudo science I've ever seen published. First of all, for people like me who sweated 3 years over a PhD that was 100 pages thick, it's rather annoying that there are people who can more or less 'buy' one from America. But qualification aside, what really annoys me is the way Ms McKeith bungles up scientific facts. The best example is her claim that to eat green vegetables 'oxygenates' the blood, as the chlorophyll in leaves produces oxygen. What the good Ms McKeith overlooks is the small but important fact that this process requires light! And there is, unfortunately, not all that much light on the inside of a body.
Avoid this book, eat sensibly, cut out junk food!
Great resource and wake up call September 29, 2006 16 out of 26 found this review helpful
After going through most of this book, I find it to be a great resource. The author is very knowledgeable. However, please keep in mind that not everything written will work for everyone. It is intended as a guide. I have to admit that I disagree with the food combinations. From an East Asian descent, I eat rice (carbs) with meats (protein) and vegetables at the same time. That is just a part of our diet. But overall, I am pleased with my purchase, and although I pride myself in taking good care of myself, I realized after reading this that I could do even better. Each person should have a copy of this book in his/her library. A great addition to this book is Can We Live 150 Year
