A good intro book for oriental cooking October 16, 2006 22 out of 23 found this review helpful
This book is clearly better than the other book "Ways with noodles". If you were deciding between them, go for this one. The recipes I've made so far from it have turned out fantastically well!
An amazing book for every occasions! July 24, 2006 18 out of 18 found this review helpful
I love this book! I have always loved noodles and all Japanese food but I could not cook them at home. It is now very easy to cook dishes from Wagamama restaurant at home for my family or for a dinner with friends. Every time, I have cooked recipes from the book, it has been a great success! Hopefully, there are plenty of tips on ingredients, cooking techniques... so recipes are really easy to prepare and you can't fail!
Unusable May 1, 2006 29 out of 46 found this review helpful
Being a huge Wagamama fan, I eagerly bought this book. It has been utterly disappointing though. The DVD features three blokes who look completely bored and ill at ease. I expected the news-anchor with the American accent to fall asleep any moment. How he ever got a job I don`t know. The DVD features questions like "What are you doing now?" as someone flings a piece of chicken into a wok. The DVD has a childlike, commercial appeal but is of no use. The book itself contains many recipes which need exotic sauces which is a pain to prepare. Some recipes ask for two or three pre-pepared sauces which makes the recipe a waste of time and money. A toned-down version was asked for, concentrating on easy to prepare meals and a bit of fun, even if it`s not the genuine Wagamama taste. All in all the book is unusable to a large degree and for a brand that preaches healthy living there are too little vegetarian recipes. The book is a waste, the retaurants are great.
Excellent - So why four stars? April 30, 2006 16 out of 18 found this review helpful
The Wagamama restaurants are among my favourite spots for a speedy feed, and this book really does enable the preparation of tasty Waga' dishes in the home.
The recipies are simple to prepare, and reflect the restaurant's quick service.
In short, brill; though I've knocked off a star in order to make an obvious point: Some of the ingredients may be difficult to source.
Exciting flavours require exciting ingredients. No problem for city dwellers; people close to an Asian grocers or a well-stocked wholefood store will have no problem. If you're restricted to your local supermarket however, some of the recipes are out of bounds as they make use of bits and pieces that might not be easy to obtain.
Do put in the effort though, hunt down the ingredients and enjoy some jolly tasty grub.
No more secrets! March 9, 2006 7 out of 11 found this review helpful
I am a fan of Wagamama food, especially of "ghiozas" and their wonderful sauce and now...I can cook them myself any time I want! The ingredients are all very easy to find and the recipes are simple, the pictures are beautiful. This book is a must have for any chef, even the least adventurous, as the flavours are delicate and balanced and a success also with guests who do not usually like oriental or fusion cooking.
