3 out of 5 stars Good but nothing special   March 17, 2008

I have owned this for several years and have made great smoothies with no complaints.

My reason for giving only 3 stars is that it is no more than a blender with a neat dispenser. My traditional blender makes smoothies that are just as nice that you simply pour out rather than dispensing via the nozzle.

My recomendation is to buy a decent blender that you can use for all your blending requirements (unless you have an extra large kitchen of course).

2 out of 5 stars Leaks   February 13, 2008

Had hardly any use out of it when it started to leak from the base, the contents ran through the base into the machine its self. It's now completely unusable. Tap is no good either.

5 out of 5 stars Good Fun and Healthy   July 3, 2007

I got this smoothie maker about a month ago with some of my birthday money and it has been well worth the money! I make a smoothie every morning as soon as I get up and I love it!

People who say theirs broke after a few days are just being careless but as long as you do things like put ice cubes or frozen fruits in after there is plenty of liquid, the machine will not break.

The only bad point is the noise. It is really loud but as it is only until you have your smoothie, most people can live with it.

This is a great buy, especially when bought along with "innocent smoothie recipe book: 57 and a half recipes from our kitchen to yours"

4 out of 5 stars Gorgeous healthy smoothies on tap.....   June 6, 2007

Only had it a few days now but I must of gone through around 10 kilos of fruit already. 5(kilos)a day??

Chuck what you like in it, ices cubes, milk, ice cream, `nana's, s`berrys, vodka. I might just worry when I'm jamming some bacon and eggs in it to make an omelette mix.....

My only qualms, the area just below the blades does keep some solid bits of fruit which every so often blocks the tap, but thats easily squished with the stirrer you get with it, mix again and hmmmmmmm, spanking concoctions.

It's also slightly loud as on par with a chainsaw going off in your house, but since its only on for 20-30 seconds I can live with that aspect.

edit:- As in one of the reviewers have said you can clean it easier if you put water in it after use and press the pulse button on it to pre-clean it. BEWARE, too much water and the thermal fuse cuts out. I nearly sent this back, but after turning it on and off a few times, it works fine again and I've never gone nut's with too much water again.

2 out of 5 stars This blender is not all that good really   January 26, 2007

I bought this blender from Robert Dyas as it was reduced in price. I was a little reluctant to purchase it as I have bought blenders in the past and they have always broken down on me. I took one back from Robert Dyas in the UK as the 1st time I used it (not Kenwood brand) the actual components fell into pieces. Amazing but true. Unfortunately today companies never make anything that lasts and this Kenwood smoothie maker is no exception.

My advise when purchasing a good blender is to check what component they use at the bottom as many use rubber which wears away in time and this is the issue I have with mine after about 6 months. The motor works fine but doesn't work anymore as the rubber grooves have worn away which makes it useless. Admiteddly I used ice in mine but why shouldn't I. I want a nice cold smoothie! These days I stick to my Braun blender instead which I have used for about 6 years instead and it never lets me down and is far easier to clean. To finish off, the tap on this kendwood model did not screw in properly and leaked as well and I had to resort to using aluminium foil to keep it in place to stop it dripping. I made a mistake in buying this. Unfortunately Kenwood did have a good reputation back in the old days, maybe they still do, but I think are probably just like many other company out there now and build things to last 1 year max and that's it and that's if you're lucky. It's all money, money, money and cheap components.
