Making it easy. January 27, 2005 10 out of 23 found this review helpful
I love this book. If I'm stuck for an idea for something to rustle up I can usually find some inspiration here. Jamie makes everything sound so simple and I find myself making something that I would usually have considered too difficult or time consuming.
An inspirational book ... but the TV show is better August 1, 2002 8 out of 22 found this review helpful
I purchased this book after being inspired by the TV program. Jamie is obviously a good cook but the reason for his success is that he has a passion for making food and an unconventional or different approach. I have tried about 10 recipes in the book and some were really excellent but a few were dissappointing or nothing special e.g. Lamb with anchovies. All in all it was a worthwhile purchase since it motivated me to try something new in the kitchen and to use fresh ingrediens such as herbs. Inspirational !!!
Cooking for the Jaded Chef!!!! September 20, 2001 52 out of 58 found this review helpful
I am a very keen cook, and quite ambitious but sometimes, you get bogged down with the usual run-of-the-mill recipes, with boring instructions to cook the same old thing the same old way. Jamie is a breath of fresh air. His instructions are witty, sometimes cheeky, and want you to go into that kitchen and try the recipes out. I tried his pizza. It was really scrummy and fun to make and tasted great. Cooking and having fun really go together. He makes it sound so easy, and the way he explains it, it really isn't difficult at all. I would buy this book for a first-time cook, who doesn't want to spend a fortune, but still wants to have a decent meal on the table, and not spend hours and hours doing it!!!
How can you possibly get the recipes wrong???!! July 11, 2001 14 out of 17 found this review helpful
I have both Jamie's books and am a seasoned cook of 30 years. I am stunned that anyone can possibly get the recipes wrong. The quantities are spot on, the recipes are so simple to follow it's untrue.I have cooked the Thai Green Curry umpteen times and never had a single problem... Please dont give up on the book, dust it off and try it again.
great in theory but quantities are misleading June 21, 2001 6 out of 11 found this review helpful
I love Jamie's style of cooking & have his two books - and I am not sure which of his books this review refers to! I was disappointed to find that the thai green curry and the sorbet with martini didn't work out because the quantities were way off. My thai curry was so bitter it had to be binned such was the quantity of limes in the recipe;the sorbet didn't set and I did follow the recipes in full: I have been cooking for over 20 years and this is the first time anything I prepared had to be binned - the books look great on my kitchen shelves but will be gathering dust from now on.
